How It Works?

Follow these steps to migrate your Windows PC to Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon:

Back Up Data/Check Hard Drive

Image entire Windows hard drive with Clonezilla. Or use a service like Backblaze to back up files to the Cloud or an external drive. In Windows, open Command Prompt and run wmic diskdrive get status. Then run chkdsk /f.

Handle OneDrive/Cloud Sync Folders

Open OneDrive settings → "Files On Demand" → Turn off "Save space and download files as you use them." Wait for all files to download fully (check the OneDrive icon/status; it may take time and disk space).

Disable BitLocker

If your drive is encrypted, disable BitLocker in Windows: Go to Control Panel > System and Security > BitLocker Drive Encryption, select your drive, and click “Turn off BitLocker.” Wait for decryption to complete.

Prepare a Copy Drive

You’ll need a spare hard drive or USB drive with enough space for your Windows Users folder. In Windows, right-click C:\Users, select Properties, and check the size. Ensure the copy drive has at least this much free space (e.g., 50 GB for 40 GB of user data).

Create a Bootable USB

Download Ventoy and install it on a USB stick. Copy the Jackjump Migration Tool ISO (downloaded after payment) to the USB. Ventoy makes it easy to boot from the ISO.

Configure Boot Menu

Restart your PC, enter one-time boot menu and set USB as the first boot device (usually by pressing F8 - F12/Esc). Or enter the BIOS to do so (usually by pressing F2, Del, or Esc during boot), Save and exit.

Boot and Install

Boot from the USB, select “Start Linux Mint,” and follow the Mint Ubiquity installer. Choose your install drive and copy drive. The tool automatically detects Windows, copies and configures user files, and installs Linux Mint. Using standard installer with one additional item: copy drive.

Run Post-Install Script

After installation, as the main user, double-click the “Jackjump Configuration” desktop icon. For additional users, run it again with ./jackjump-config.sh username. This configures browsers, wallpaper, and desktop icons.
